Abstract Photography

Abstracting Water

Ways of Seeing

It seems like there are as many forms and styles of photography as there are all other art forms combined. The same camera can capture a birthday, a volcanic ecosystem or a war zone – but it’s unlikely that the same photographer can give these equal skill and attention.  We all have different ways of seeing the world around us and different ways of expressing what that means to us.

For me, it’s important to bring something beautiful forward because there are so many things in the world trying to eliminate it.  I use photography to do that instead of some other art form because I enjoy the challenge of finding that magic combination of light and composition instead of assembling it later. What I see depends as much on my mood as it does on the location so I know that I am an integral part of the process.

Ways of seeing often reflect the person and what they choose to focus on. The broad expanse or the minute details, activity or zen stillness – there are as many ways of seeing as their are people but occasionally we can communicate what that is to others. I hope that my images bring a sense of joy and peace – that is usually how I’m feeling when taking them!
